61 The Afternoon Plane

Filming for this episode took place from 11/20/1986 through 12/01/1986.

Production code 62022, Production order 56.

The episode starts at a wedding and reception. This was filmed within the Biltmore Hotel in the Danielson Gallery. 1200 Anastassia Avenue, Coral Gables.

Next we see Tubbs and his girlfriend arrive on vacation. This was filmed at Opa-locka West Airfield. We have seen this used in: Back In The World, Smuggler’s Blues, Stone’s War and Baby Blues.

Then we see the standard season 3 opening montage.

After the opening montage, act 1 opens with them still at the Opa-locka West Airfield.

Then we see them arrive at the Police Station. This was filmed at the Deering Estate. 16701 SW 72nd Ave. We have seen the Deering Estate used in: Bushido, Cuba Libre, Leap Of Faith and Freefall.

Then we see them at the Island Inn. Also filmed at the Deering Estate.

Then we see them riding a horse. This was also filmed at the Deering Estate.

Then back at the Inn (Deering Estate) for drinks and a good night.

The next morning, Tubbs is finally starting to catch on (Deering Estate).

Then we return to the airfield. Opa-locka West. This of course does not go well as Calderone owns the island.

Next we see the guns arrive and the Police Chief be paid $1,000.00 USD to leave the island. This was filmed at the Famous Jimbo’s on Virginia Key. We saw this same structure used in Stone’s War.

Then we see Tubbs trying to get off island by boat. This was also filmed at Jimbo’s.

As they walk away we get a great view of Jimbo’s as it existed in the 80’s.

Then we see them return to the Police Station, filmed on the Deering Estate.

Then we go to the airfield (Opa-locka West) where Alicia buys ticket for the afternoon plane.

Then we see Tubbs on the offensive where he runs into an old friend. This was filmed at Jimbo’s.

Then we return to the police station where the young deputy prepares for the trouble ahead. This was filmed at the Deering Estate.

Then back to Jimbo’s where Tubbs continues to look for help.

Then we return to the Inn where Sally is leaving. Filmed at the Deering Estate.

Then we return to the airfield where the deputy walks into his own death. Tubbs is there to watch.

Then back to the inn.

Then we go to the Sweetfield Missionary Baptist Church. This was filmed on location at 3585 Plaza Street in Coconut Grove.

Then we cut to the airfield where they await the plane before we cut to Jimbo’s.

The Jitney drives down the dirt road that leads out of Jimbo’s to the north. They are driving southbound toward Jimbo’s. This road was used in 2 Fast 2 Furious but is now mostly grown over with vegetation.

We go to the airfield again as the plane approaches. Filmed at Opa-locka West.

Then we see Tubbs at the Police Station (Deering Estate). There one of the locals comes thru with an old 12 gauge shotgun.

Tubbs loads up in front of the Inn.

We cut again to the airfield where the women arrive.

We then cut to Jimbo’s where the people are going into hiding.

We then return to the Deering Estate where Tubbs works on an old truck to get it ready then lays in wait. Huricane Andrew did a lot of damage here including taking down the giant fig tree.

Then the plane arrives at Opa-locka West.

We return to the Deering Estate where Calderone is arriving.

We cut to the airport then to Jimbo’s.

Then we cut to the Deering Estate again where the truck stunt served no purpose other than to give Tubbs’ location away.

Alicia hears the gunshots and runs from the airfield (Opa-locka West).

We cut back to the Deering Estate where Tubbs finally has taken up a high location and is concealed on the roof above the Police Department.

Alicia joins in at the Inn.

She gets shot but so do all the bad guys. The episode ends here.

Then Reuben pays Sally a visit. With incredible use of a location they have swapped out furniture and given her a room that looks different but is in fact the exact same room as we earlier saw was the room Tubbs and Alicia are staying in.
